HL-50E-XT, Fiber Laser Marking Machine

The HL-50E-XT is a larger version of the HL-50E, allowing for larger parts or multiple setups to be laser marked. The laser applies advanced photonics and fiber optic technology to offer precise laser marking capabilities to your production line.

Compared to other laser types, the HL-50E-XT is equipped with a fiber cable that can concentrate and amplify high-output, diode generated light through converging lens resulting in a laser beam that is straighter, smaller and more precise. This allows for greater electrical efficiency and comparatively low operating costs.

The HL-50E-XT is suitable for most material with good thermal conductivity such as steel, brass, aluminum, silver, and iron, as well as some non-metallic materials allowing it to be applicable across a wide range of industries—ideal for small and large manufacturing operations alike.

NOTE: The HL-50E is equipped with an infrared laser source that generates heat during laser marking. Non-metallic materials—especially plastics and polymers that have low heat resistance and thermal conductivity—may melt or burn rather than produce a clean mark. Haas laser markers are designed with safety and compliance in mind. These units meet applicable CE safety standards. However, please note that ETL certification is not currently available. Requirements may vary by location, installation, and customer application, so customers should confirm any site-specific certification needs with their local authority or compliance representative.

Technical Details

Efficient & Powerful Fiber Laser Head

Laser machines have three main components: an energy source, a laser medium, and an optical resonator.

The energy source, or pump source, is how a laser produces its energy – typically in the form of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). This energy is pumped into a laser gain medium that is contained in a reflective, mirrored cavity, known as the optical resonator, designed to redirect the majority of a laser’s energy back into the system.

This optical “feedback” or recirculation amplifies the generated light energy into a beam head, consisting of a beam expander and a converging lens, which produces the final, laser beam output.

Fiber laser machines like the HL-50E are equipped with a fiber optic cable that acts as the laser medium, producing a high output power compared to standard diode lasers, which typically use laser mediums in the form of crystal or glass. Likewise, the optical resonators in fiber lasers are constructed by fusion splicing different types of optical fiber, end-to-end; fiber Bragg gratings replace the series of conventional, dielectric mirrors to provide the necessary optical feedback for laser production.

Fiber lasers also maintain a higher-quality beam due to the natural waveguide properties of fiber optic, which have a tendency to restrict light waves to one direction. Fiber lasers are recognized across the industry for being incredibly efficient in converting electrical energy to laser light, and are generally unmatched in cutting/marking speed and cycle time.

LightBurn Compatibility

Customize your creative assets exactly how you want in LightBurn.

LightBurn is a native application written specifically for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux, and is one of the most common layout, editing, and control software offered for laser machines.

Artwork, graphics, decals, and similar elements can be imported in a variety of common vector graphic and image formats; arrange, edit, and even create new vector shapes to best suit your needs.

Within LightBurn, settings like Laser Power, Frequency, Speed, Number of Passes, etc. can be easily adjusted on the fly to optimize the output of your laser.

This comes preinstalled in the HL-50E’s integrated Windows 11 desktop, so no need to hunt for related drivers or software, just import your graphics and start marking!

LightBurn - Documentation & Support

NOTE: The Haas laser marker includes a lifetime license to LightBurn Pro Laser Control Software. Upon completion of your purchase, a license key to activate the LightBurn software will be sent to the email associated with your account. If you do not receive an email with your license key, please contact CustomerSupport@HaasCNC.com. DO NOT activate the trial version of the LightBurn software. LightBurn licenses are perpetual, meaning the software works forever, but the included 365-day update period expires after one year. To continue receiving the newest versions after that year, the customer must purchase a new license.

Easy Calibration

Installed a new F-Theta lens and need to recalibrate?

Typically, after setting up a new lens, a laser machine requires recalibration. Fortunately, the HL-50E makes this a pain-free process.

After installing the new lens, simply set up a sample workpiece on the table, and adjust the height of the laser head until the resulting marking is crisp and clear. When the laser head is at the optimal height, loosen the bolts on either laser pointer, so that both pointers mark the same location on the table.

Retighten the bolts, and the two-point laser focus system should be properly calibrated to the new lens. When you switch to a different height workpiece, simply lower the laser lens until the two laser pointers meet again, and the correct lens height will be maintained. Some further adjustment may be required to fine-tune your marking/engraving results.

Different lenses affect your spot size, the depth of focus, laser density, and your effective working area.

LightBurn - Lens Focusing & Calibration Tools

NOTE: The last digits marked on each respective laser lens are a rough estimate of the correct focal length for that lens. Each lens requires a different minimum marking distance.

Refer to the machine layout drawing for more detailed specifications.

Integrated Fume Extractor

Filter out harmful laser fumes and byproducts with the integrated fume extractor.

Many health and safety hazards become present with the fumes generated from laser marking, cutting, and welding machines, with the severity being dependent on the material that is being cut.

Based on an 8-hour time-weighted average (TWA), OSHA has specified the permissible exposure limits for the various fumes/dust generated by laser cutting metal materials under OSHA 1910 Subpart Z – Toxic and Hazardous Substances.

The HL-50E’s integrated fume extractor is specifically designed to extract and remove up to 99.97% of the various harmful fumes that are generated from the laser cutting process, and is assembled with four included filter elements:

  • 09-0838 - (1 wk. - 2 mo.) Primary Cotton Filter
  • 09-0839 - (3 mo. - 6 mo.) Polypropylene (PP) Filter
  • 09-0840 - (3 mo. - 6 mo.) Glass Fiber Filter
  • 09-0841 - (3 mo. - 6 mo.) Activated Carbon Filter

We recommend replacing the filter elements per the time intervals specified above and in the HL-50E service manual. Additional filter elements can be purchased at HaasTooling.com.

Manual X-Axis Gantry

Managing multiple setups, large or extended-length parts, or a rotary fixture that you prefer to keep in place?

Take advantage of the HL-50E-XT’s manual X-axis gantry, which allows users to make use of the machine’s large work area. The X-axis gantry can be unlocked to manually reposition the laser head, then locked again once it’s in place.

Easily set up a rotary on the side and continue performing precise 2D flat markings. The X-gantry system streamlines setup, saving time compared to the traditional HL-50E.

Refer to the MACHINE LAYOUT DRAWING for more detailed specifications.

Explore Your Creative Potential

Mark and engrave a variety of materials--the choice is yours.
